Adelaide Hills

The Adelaide Hills offers one of the best experiences at smaller cellar doors, historic towns such as Hahndorf that are unique to the region. See magnificent views of the Piccadilly Valley whilst only being a 20 to 30 minute drive from Adelaide’s CBD. Specialising in cool climate wine varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon to name a few. Craft breweries, gin distilleries, chocolatiers and local cheese makers also add to the experience of what the Adelaide Hills has to offer.

Barossa Valley

Ranked alongside Bordeaux, Napa and Tuscany the Barossa Valley is recognised as one of the world’s great wine regions. A short 60 minute M2 Motorway drive from Adelaide’s CBD you will be in the Barossa where you can explore the history of the early Germanic settlers to this area. The Barossa offers a diverse range of wine styles, specialising in Riesling, Shiraz, and regional hero’s such as Grenache, Mataro, Viognier, Semillon and fortified wines. There is a very strong food culture offered, with places like Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, Fino at Seppeltsfield, Hentley Farm and Vintners Bar & Grill just to name a few. Or you could enjoy a regional platter or pizza offered by many cellar doors.

You may wish to indulge yourself and taste the world-renowned Grange. Penfolds Barossa offer the ultimate tasting including the ‘ Taste of Grange Experience’ (duration 1 hour at 2pm daily – tasting fees apply).

To put it simply the Barossa has it all!

McLaren Vale

Approximately a 45 minute drive from Adelaide’s CBD and home to more than 80 unique and welcoming cellar doors, boutique breweries and distilleries. McLaren Vale is best known for grape varieties: Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon with lesser known Spanish and Italian varieties such as Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo and Sangiovese also featured at many of the cellar doors.

The region offers: –

  • World class food options
  • Some of the best wine on the planet
  • Fresh markets and produce sampling (on market day)
  • Pristine Beaches with spectacular scenery all part of the Fleurieu Peninsula

The locals call McLaren Vale and the Onkaparinga Region / Valley with its magnificent landscape “where the vines meet the sea”.

Langhorne Creek

About an hour’s drive from Adelaide’s CBD you’ll discover artisanal small producers who craft award winning wines that speak of place and people.

Enjoy a lunch of local produce, stroll past old vineyards and ancient gum trees and experience the essence of a real Australian winemaking community.

Regarded as one of the best-kept secrets in Australian viticulture, Langhorne Creek offers one of Australia’s oldest and most significant wine regions in our land. Founded in the 1850’s and influenced by the local Bremer and Angas Rivers flood plain, this region is unique in many ways.

Fresh, cool evening breezes from Lake Alexandrina provide a micro climate of warm summer days and cool evenings, perfect for the long ripening of grapes, producing intense and sought after cool climate flavours.

In particular, at the home of the 2019 Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy Winner – Langhorne Creek’s Bleasdale Vineyard offer visitors Cellar Door tastings and historical tours that showcase the famous 1892 – 3.2 tonne red gum lever basket press, which operated for over 70 years.

With so many world class wine regions within a day trip of Adelaide, a visit to at least one of them is a must do!
